Under the direction of the Commander of the Army, the Directorate of Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation, in collaboration with the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU), conducted a medical camp for disabled retired personnel as part of a series of ongoing medical programmes on 21 October 2025 at the Headquarters of the 58 Infantry Division, Puttalam. The initiative aimed to address the healthcare needs of Army veterans residing in Puttalam District.
Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG, Commander of the Army, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest together with Mrs Swendrini Dissanayake, President of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit. Upon his arrival, he was warmly welcomed by Major General U.K.D.D.P. Udugama RWP RSP USP ndc psc, Commander, Security Forces (West), together with other senior officers.
During the event, 300 spectacles, 15 wheelchairs, 100 crutches, 5 walking aids and 5 walkers along with other medical equipment, were symbolically distributed to disabled personnel by the Commander of the Army and other distinguished guests, organised by the ASVU. In addition, the ASVU distributed lunch packets to all participants.
The programme benefited over 1,000 individuals, including disabled retired and medical board-out personnel, as well as family members of War Heroes currently facing medical challenges. The medical camp featured general medical consultations, prosthetic maintenance, dermatology and dental clinics, mental health counselling and nutritional guidance.
Directors of Army Headquarters, officials from the Ministry of Defence, members of the Ranaviru Seva Authority, senior officers, officers and other ranks participated in the event and inquired into the current issues faced by the participants.
