In celebration of World Children’s Day, the Sri Lanka Army organized a wide range of welfare and entertainment activities across the island, showcasing its continued commitment to community engagement and child welfare.
Accordingly, under the direction of Major General K.A.N Rasika Kumara ndc psc, the Commander, Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna conducted a series of programmes across the region with the active participation of 51, 52, and 55 Infantry Divisions troops.
Troops of the 15th Battalion the Sri Lanka National Guard hosted an entertainment event at the Karunalayan Children’s Home, screening a Tamil film, providing refreshments to the children.
Simultaneously, 9th (V) Battalion the Sri Lanka Light Infantry donated 10 dry ration packs to underprivileged families in the area. The 17th Battalion the Gemunu Watch and 14th Battalion the Gajaba Regiment, under the 512 Infantry Brigade, served tea to pre-school children, while 11th Battalion the Sri Lanka Light Infantry provided lunch for 17 children at Waleisiyaari Pre-school.
The 10 (V) Battalion the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, under the supervision of the 522 Infantry Brigade, carried out a book donation programme along with lunch treat for children at Champion Paththu Senth Pilps Meris Pre-school. The 11th Battalion the Gajaba Regiment further organized an almsgiving ceremony and distributed gift packages for children at the Aroban Children’s Home. Meanwhile 553 Infantry Brigade troops offered lunch for 17 children of Manthi Pre-school.
Similarly, on 02 October 2025, the Security Force Headquarters - West hosted a special event at the Camilia Children’s Home in Mattegoda. The programme supported 40 resident children, offering lunch treat, gifts and a lively musical session aimed at spreading joy and creating a memorable experience.
The event was graced by Major General U.K.D.D.P. Udugama RWP RSP USP ndc psc, Commander SFHQ-West. Senior Officers, Officers, and Other Ranks participated in the event.
Further, under the guidance of Major General J.S.B.W. Pallekumbura RWP RSP ndu psc, Commander, Security Forces (East), troops of the 11 (V) Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, operating under the 243 Infantry Brigade, organized a vibrant Children’s Day Programme at Sinhala Maha Vidyalaya, Batticaloa.
The event featured a variety of colourful performances and activities by the students, creating a joyful and festive atmosphere throughout the day. Essential stationery packs and school bags were also distributed among the children, while teachers received gifts in appreciation of their dedicated service. The day concluded with a special recreational visit to Happy Kids Fun World in Batticaloa, where the children enjoyed a range of fun-filled activities.
Meanwhile, following the instructions of Major General K.M.P.S.B. Kulatunga RSP ndc psc, Commander, Security Forces (Wanni), and the supervision of the 21 Infantry Division together with the 212 Infantry Brigade, a series of special programmes were conducted to mark the occasion in the Wanni region.
On 29 September 2025, 30 children from the Sathuta Children’s Home were given the opportunity to worship at the sacred Ruwanweli Maha Seya, offering them a spiritually enriching experience.
Further, with the generous financial contribution of Mr. Prasad Jayasekara, a Sri Lankan expatriate residing in Canada, school supplies and refreshments were distributed among 47 students of Thibbatuwagama Primary School, Anuradhapura, on 01 October 2025.
In line with World Children’s Day 2025, the 6th Battalion, Gajaba Regiment conducted an event at ‘Mau Sewana’ Children’s Home, Mattakkuliya, with the donation of sanitary and essential items to the children.
The troops of Security Forces Headquarters (East) conducted a donation programme on 03 October 2025 at Lumbini Primary School, Welikanda.
As part of the event, new clothing was distributed to 201 students, while sports equipment was donated to the school. In recognition of academic excellence, two scholarships were awarded to students who excelled in the Grade Five Scholarship Examination.
The event was graced by Major General J.S.B.W. Pallekumbura RWP RSP ndu psc, Commander, Security Forces (East), along with the President of the Seva Vanitha Branch, Sri Lanka National Guard. Meanwhile, the troops of the Security Forces (Wanni) conducted a stationery items donation programme for 47 children at Atambagaskada National Mixed School, Vavuniya, on 04 October 2025. The event was graced by Major General K.M.P.S.B. Kulatunga RSP ndc psc, Commander, Security Forces (Wanni), together with Mrs. Anushani Kulatunga, Chairperson of the Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps Seva Vanitha Branch.
