Army Chief Commends Notable Service of Retiring Major General

Major General A.M.K.G.P.S.K. Abeysinghe, Director General Financial Management, Army Headquarters, was invited to the office of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG, on 30 September 2025, prior to his retirement from the Sri Lanka Army after completing a distinguished military career spanning over 35 years.

Brief Profile of the Retiring Senior Officer:

Major General A.M.K.G.P.S.K Abeysinghe enlisted in the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army as an Officer Cadet into the Intake – PMA 2, on 07 September 1990. Upon successful completion of military training at the Pakistan Military Academy (PMA) and the Sri Lanka Military Academy, Diyatalawa, he was commissioned in the rank of Second Lieutenant and posted to the Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps on 13 March 1991. After being steadily elevated to subsequent ranks in the course of his service in the Army, he was promoted to the rank of Major General on 01 January 2024.

The Senior Officer retires from the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army with effect from 07 October 2025 upon reaching 55 years of age. At the time of his retirement, he was holding the appointments of Director General Financial Management in the Sri Lanka Army and Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps.

During his career, he served in many key appointments, including Platoon Commander of the 1st Battalion, the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, Headquarters of the 21 Infantry Brigade and Combat Training School, Staff Officer 3 of the Directorate of Pay & Records, Officer Instructor of the Officer Cadet Wing of the Sri Lanka Military Academy, Staff Officer 2 of the Directorate of Pay & Records, Staff Officer 2 (Logistics) of the Security Force Headquarters (East), General Staff Officer 2 (International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and Human Rights (HR)) - Security Force Headquarters (East), Staff Officer 2 (Administration) of the Task Force 3, Staff Officer 1 (Administration and Quartering) of the Headquarters Overall Operational Command, Staff Officer 1 (Administration and Quartering) of the Headquarters - 11 Infantry Division, Staff Officer 1 (Administration and Quartering Cell) of the Headquarters - Army Training Command, General Staff Officer 1 of the Regimental Centre, Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps, Commanding Officer of the 1st and 4th Battalions, the Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps, Staff Officer 1 (Administration) of the Regimental Centre, Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps, Colonel (Administration and Quartering) of the Headquarters - 55 Infantry Division, Colonel (Forward Maintenance Area) of the Forward Maintenance Area (North Central), Commandant of the Trade School - Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps, Centre Commandant of the Regimental Centre, Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps, Director of the Directorate of Army Benevolent Fund, Director of the Directorate of Pay and Records, Director General of the Directorate of Budget and Financial Management - Army Headquarters, Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps and Director General Financial Management - Army Headquarters.

He has successfully completed a number of local courses such as the Motor Transport Officers’ Course, Junior Command Course, International Humanitarian Law & Human Rights Instructor Training Course, Instructors Advanced Course on LoAC (Law of Armed Conflict) for Armed Forces, International Humanitarian Law & Human Rights Advanced Refresher Course, Training Directive Course for Trained Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law Instructors, National Military Law Enforcement Course and Human Rights Instructor Training Course. Overseas, he has followed the Mountaineering Course in Pakistan.
