A group of representatives of the Sri Lanka Armed Forces Veterans Association (SLAFVA) pinned a Poppy flower on the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG, at the Commander’s office on 12 September 2025 in parallel with the forthcoming Poppy Day, which recalls the memories of all fallen War Heroes.
Major General L.M. Mudalige (Retd), Chairman of the SLAFVA Poppy Committee, pinned the Poppy flower on the Commander of the Army, symbolising the commencement of this year’s commemoration in a few days.
Brigadier S.J.M.A.R. Senevirathne (Retd), Admin Manager, together with Major W.C. de Silva (Retd) – Treasurer of the Poppy Committee, and several other members of the Poppy Committee, joined the occasion.
Poppy Day is commemorated every year on the second Sunday of November across the world, including in all Commonwealth member states, since the end of the First World War, in honour of the sacrifices of members of the Armed Forces who laid down their lives in the line of duty.
