11th September 2025
In line with the vision of the Commander of the Army, the Sri Lanka Army launched a far-reaching humanitarian initiative to uplift rural communities in the Wanni region on 5 September 2025. The programme, supervised by the Judge Advocate General, Brigadier R.D.O. Pathiranage and his family, extended vital support to the villagers of Uyilankulam and Thenniyankulam.
The event was graced by Major General K.M.P.S.B. Kulatunga RSP ndc psc, Commander, Security Forces – Wanni. The highlight of the initiative was the donation of a Reverse Osmosis (RO) water purification plant, a vital facility providing clean drinking water free of charge to nearly 300 families. This long-awaited resource not only relieves families of the financial burden of purchasing water but also ensures a sustainable supply of safe drinking water, contributing to the community’s overall health and well-being.
In addition, the programme extended a compassionate gesture towards expecting mothers by distributing 50 specially prepared packs containing essential items for newborn care and maternal well-being.
These donations addressed an important social need, easing the challenges faced by pregnant mothers in rural areas.
The initiative further strengthened community ties through a communal lunch organized for 650 villagers. Troops of the 10th Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry, under the close supervision of the Commander, 561 Infantry Brigade, worked tirelessly to execute the programme.
