The Ministry of Urban Development, Construction and Housing organised the launch of the revised Sri Lanka Mine Action Completion Strategy (2025-2027) of the National Mine Action Programme on 28 August 2025 at BMICH.
The Minister of Urban Development, Construction and Housing, Hon. Mr. Anura Karunathilaka, presided the programme. The Chief Field Engineer of the Sri Lanka Army and the Commander, Field Engineer Brigade, also participated in this special event.
In addition to the exhibition conducted by NGOs, a Mine Detection Dog (MDD) demonstration was organised by the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers K9 Unit, together with an informative briefing. The highly trained MDDs showcased their critical role in ensuring safety during demining operations.
The demonstration highlighted the effectiveness, precision and discipline of these specialised dogs in detecting landmines and unexploded ordnance.
The programme concluded with a lunch and an interactive session with demining officials from around the world who took part in the event.
