The 29th commemorative ceremony to honour the fallen war heroes of the Battle of Mullaittivu was held at the War Heroes' Monument of the 1st Regiment Special Forces (SF) on 19 July 2025. During the ceremony, tribute was paid to the supreme sacrifices made on 19 July 1996 by two Officers, including the late Colonel A.F. Lafir PWV RWP RSP, and 36 Other Ranks who laid down their lives for the motherland.
The event was conducted under the guidance of Major General M.T.I. Mahalekam WWV RWP RSP USP ndu psc, Colonel of the Regiment SF.
In parallel, the 1 SF organised a donation programme for the Warnakulasuriya Home for the Elders in Madawala Ulpatha, Matale. The initiative included the provision of meals and essential items to the elderly residents. A dhamma sermon was also arranged at the 1 SF premises in the evening, invoking blessings in memory of the fallen heroes.
