Annual Commemoration of Captain Saliya Aladeniya PWV Held in Kokavil

The annual commemoration ceremony of Captain Saliya Aladeniya PWV of the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) took place on 11 July 2025 at Kokavil, honouring his supreme sacrifice and his fellow soldiers who defended the Kokavil Camp against LTTE forces on 11 July 1990.

Captain Aladeniya set a historic example of heroism by choosing to stand his ground with his troops, becoming the first recipient of the Parama Weera Vibhushanaya (PWV), Sri Lanka’s highest military honour, equivalent to the British Victoria Cross.

The event, held with full military honours, featured floral tributes in memory of the fallen heroes. Major General D.R.N Hettiarachchi RWP RSP USP, General Officer Commanding 59 Infantry Division, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks and family members of the fallen heroes were present to pay their respects.
