1st July 2025
A solemn military funeral was held on 30 June 2025 at the new crematorium of the General Cemetery, Borella, to bid farewell to the late Major General T.A Peiris (Retd) ptsc. The ceremony was attended by a large gathering of military personnel, dignitaries, and mourners who came together to honour the distinguished officer’s service to the nation.
In accordance with military traditions, troops of the Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (SLEME) received the remains with a ceremonial presentation of arms before placing the coffin, draped in the National Flag, onto a gun carriage. As the funeral procession advanced towards the crematorium, Army personnel and family members formed a solemn cortege behind the coffin.
A Special Part I Order, issued by the Adjutant General of the Sri Lanka Army, was read aloud to those in attendance, outlining the late General’s service record and expressing the nation’s gratitude for his dedicated service. This was followed by a symbolic gun salute, the highest military honour accorded to a fallen senior officer.
The poignant sounding of the “Last Post” marked the final farewell, signifying that the soldier had been laid to rest. The remains were then formally carried into the crematorium.
As a customary gesture of honour, Major General C. Kalutharaarachchi, Colonel Commandant of SLEME and Director General of EME, presented the bereaved family with the decorations and medals earned by Major General T.A Peiris (Retd) ptsc during his exemplary military career.
