Army Chief Commends Bravery and Swift Action of the Gemunu Watch Army Chief Commends Gemunu Watch Troops for Heroic Rescue

Disaster relief troops of the Nonperial detachment of the Gemunu Watch demonstrated exceptional bravery by rescuing 35 civilians trapped due to rising water levels in Hirikatu Oya on 01 March 2025.

Recognizing their swift response, Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG, Commander of the Army, awarded commemorative certificates to the rescuers on 14 March 2025 at the Army Headquarters. The Army Chief praised the troops for their dedication, professionalism, and commitment to safeguarding civilian lives. One Officer and 23 Other Ranks played a crucial role in the successful operation, ensuring the safety of the stranded civilians.
