Army Chief Appreciates the Notable Contributions of Retiring Major General

Major General A.K Rajapaksa RSP, along with his family members, visited the office of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG, on 07 March 2025, ahead of his retirement from the Sri Lanka Army.

During the meeting, the Army Chief highly appreciated the Senior Officer’s steadfast dedication and outstanding service, both during the war against terrorism and in the post-war period. He also acknowledged the significant contributions made by his family in supporting him throughout his military career.

Major General A.K Rajapaksa RSP enlisted in the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army as an Officer Cadet into the Intake 32 on 14 July 1989. Upon successfully completing military training at the Sri Lanka Military Academy, Diyatalawa, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant and posted to the Sri Lanka Army Service Corps on 19 January 1991.

Elevating through the ranks during his tenure, he was promoted to the rank of Major General on 19 August 2023. The Senior Officer will retire from the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army on 12 March 2025, upon reaching the 55 years of age. At the time of his retirement, he holds the appointments of Master General Ordnance at Army Headquarters and Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Service Corps.

Throughout his career, he has held numerous key appointments, including Group Commander of the 1st Regiment Special Forces, Officer Commanding of the 1st Regiment Special Forces, Adjutant of the 2nd Regiment Special Forces, Officer Commanding of the Administration Squadron in the 2nd Regiment Special Forces, Second-in-Command of the Supply Squadron in the 3rd Sri Lanka Army Service Corps, Staff Officer 2 (Logistics) at the Joint Operations Headquarters, Officer Commanding of the 333 Composite Squadron in Welioya, Staff Officer 2 (Administration) at the Regimental Centre of the Sri Lanka Army Service Corps, Officer Commanding of the Supply Squadron in the 4th Sri Lanka Army Service Corps, Officer Commanding of the Administration Squadron in the 4th Sri Lanka Army Service Corps, Second-in-Command of the 3rd Sri Lanka Army Service Corps, Officer Commanding of the Independent Transport Squadron in Maradana, Officiating Staff Officer 1 (Logistics) at the Security Force Headquarters (Wanni), Commandant of the Army Service Corps School, Commanding Officer of the 7th Sri Lanka Army Service Corps, Colonel (Administration and Quartering) at Headquarters 53 Infantry Division, Colonel (Quartering) at the Directorate of Real Estate & Quartering at Army Headquarters, Deputy Centre Commandant of the Regimental Centre in the Sri Lanka Army Service Corps, Deputy Director of the Directorate of Welfare at Army Headquarters, Brigadier (Administration and Quartering) at the Security Force Headquarters (Mullaitivu), Director of the Directorate of Agriculture & Livestock at Army Headquarters, Commander of the Forward Maintenance Area (North Central), Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Service Corps and Master General Ordnance at the Master General Ordnance Branch at Army Headquarters.

In recognition of his bravery in battle, the Senior Officer has been awarded Rana Sura Padakkama (RSP).

During his distinguished military career, he has completed various local and international training courses, including the Special Forces Basic Course, Basic Parachute Course, Basic Computer Course, and Unit Administration Officers’ Course in Sri Lanka. He has also attended the Army Service Corps Young Officers’ Course in India, the Commando Course in India, the Advanced Petroleum Course in Pakistan, the Army Service Corps Company Commanders’ Course in India and the Army Service Corps Senior Officers’ Course in India.
