5th June 2025
To mark the World Environment Day, a special programme was held on 05 June 2025 at Army Headquarters under the theme ‘Ending Plastic Pollution’, in line with the Clean Sri Lanka initiative. This initiative aims to promote an environmentally friendly and sustainable society. Accordingly, the week from 30 May to 05 June 2025 was designated as the Environment Week.
Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG, Commander of the Army, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. To symbolise the commitment to environmental preservation, the Commander planted a ‘Mee’ tree at the Light Vehicle Park of Army Headquarters.
In parallel with this initiative, additional ‘Mee’ trees were planted to protect the water-sensitive areas surrounding Army Headquarters.
Further supporting this effort, Alliance Finance PLC contributed by donating 20,000 coconut and mango saplings, with 500 of them symbolically handed over during the event. These saplings were formally presented by the Commander of the Army to the representatives of respective Regimental Centres for further planting across military establishments.
