A fire erupted on 04 June 2025 at the Devmini Timber Store near Bokundara Junction in Piliyandala. Upon receiving the alert, troops from the 5 Sri Lanka Engineer Regiment and the 1 Sri Lanka Ordnance Corps were immediately deployed to assist.
Two teams, each comprising 20 personnel, engaged in firefighting operations along with fire and rescue services. Their timely and coordinated efforts were instrumental in controlling the blaze, preventing further damage, and ensuring public safety.
The Army's intervention was conducted under the supervision of the 14 Infantry Division in close coordination with civilian emergency response agencies.
