In line with the 17th Anniversary of the 61 Infantry Division, the troops of the Division conducted a special social service programme for 50 special needs residents of the Sambodhi Children’s and Elderly Home in Galle on 27 and 28 May 2025, under the guidance of the General Officer Commanding, Major General K.T.P De Silva RSP ndu psc.
During the programme, the troops launched a “Shramadana” campaign to remove garbage and waste from the premises. They thoroughly cleaned the surroundings and all residential buildings, while also carrying out essential repairs to the electrical system.
In addition, the troops provided personal care to all residents, including haircuts, baths and medical treatment for those in need. The event concluded with a delicious lunch accompanied by lively calypso music.
On the Anniversary Day, the General Officer Commanding was accorded a Guard Turnout and Guard of Honour. Addressing the troops, he appreciated their dedicated service and commended ongoing disaster relief efforts.
Commemorating the occasion, he planted a sapling in the camp premises and posed for a group photograph with all ranks. The day concluded with an All-Ranks tea and a musical event.
