War Veterans Enrich Dinners’ Club and Battlefield Case Study at the Army War College

The Army War College (AWC) conducted a professionally enriching two-day programme on 25 and 26 March 2026, integrating a Diners’ Club session with a battlefield-based case study on the capture of Mullaitivu.

The programme provided Student Officers of Senior Command Course 16 (SCC 16) and Junior Command Course 35 (JCC 35) with a valuable platform for reflective dialogue and in-depth operational analysis.

The programme commenced on 25 March 2026 with a Diners’ Club session themed “Mullaitivu – From Debacle to Victory.” The session was attended by 166 Student Officers, along with members of the Faculty and Permanent Staff.

The keynote address was delivered by Major General Nandana Udawatta (Retd), former General Officer Commanding of the 59 Infantry Division, who shared firsthand insights on leadership under pressure, operational planning and the conduct of high-intensity operations in complex terrain.

On 26 March 2026, the programme continued with a Cloth Model Discussion (CMD) focusing on the capture of Mullaitivu during the Northern Humanitarian Operation.

A notable feature of the programme was the participation of war veterans directly involved in the operation.

Major General Nandana Udawatta (Retd), together with Major General H.M.U.B. Herath (Retd), former Colonel Admin and Quartering of the 59 Infantry Division, enriched the session by sharing their battlefield experiences and professional insights.
