Sri Lanka Army Leads Effort to Establish Elephant Feeding Zone Near Thabbowa Reservoir

In line with the government’s ongoing “Clean Sri Lanka” initiative, troops of the Sri Lanka Army established an Elephant Feeding Zone near the Thabbowa Reservoir.

The two-day project, took place on 11 and 12 October 2025, as a part of the broader national campaign to preserve endangered elephant population.

The project also focuses on the removal of harmful wild plants in the Thabbowa Reservoir area, which are known to negatively impact the natural habitat of elephants.

Over an estimated area of five kilometers, the troops worked tirelessly to clear these invasive plants.

Troops of 58 Infantry Division, including the 1st Battalion of the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment and the 6th Battalion of Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, Sri Lanka Armoured Corps Brigade and the Sri Lanka Artillery Brigade took part in the project. The Sri Lanka Navy, Sri Lanka Air Force, and Sri Lanka Police, Civil Service Departments also extended their assistance.
