Under the guidance of the Commander of the Army, the Directorate of Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation, in collaboration with the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU), conducted a welfare camp for disabled retired personnel as part of a series of ongoing welfare programmes on 24 February 2026 at the Headquarters of the 22 Infantry Division, Trincomalee. The initiative aimed to address the healthcare needs of Army veterans residing in the Trincomalee District.
Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG, Commander of the Army, attended the occasion as the Chief Guest together with Mrs. Swendrini Rodrigo, President of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit. Upon his arrival, he was warmly received by Major General J.S.B.W. Pallekumbura RWP RSP ndu psc, Commander, Security Forces (East), along with other senior officers.
During the programme, wheelchairs and crutches, together with other medical equipment, were distributed to disabled personnel. The medical camp was also featured at the event with general medical consultations, prosthetic maintenance, dermatology and dental clinics, an eye clinic, and nutritional guidance. The programme benefited over 1,500 individuals, including retired personal on medical grounds as well as family members of War Heroes.
Principal Staff Officers, Directors of Army Headquarters, members of the Ranaviru Seva Authority and representatives from the Directorate of Pay & Records, Directorate of Personal Administration, Directorate of Legal Service, Human Rights & Humanitarian Law, Directorate of Welfare, Directorate of Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation and the Directorate of Army Medical Services were also present at the occasion.
