Sri Lanka Army Continues Invasive Plant Removal to Protect Elephant Habitats

In parallel with the ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ programme and in collaboration with the ‘Wild Tuskers’ organization, the Sri Lanka Army continued its large-scale invasive plant removal campaign in 212 Infantry Brigade area.

During the operation, invasive plants such as water cabbage and Japan Jabara, which obstruct the natural lifestyle and movement of elephants, were cleared.

The programme, carried out from 05 to 07 September 2025 across Kala Wewa, Kalagama, and Balalu Wewa and resulted in the successful removal of invasive plants from approximately 30 acres of land, creating a healthier environment for elephants and preserving the natural ecosystem.

A combined strength of military personnel, government institutions, non-governmental organizations, and civilians actively participated in the effort.
