Sri Lanka Army Athletes Shine at 26th Asian Athletics Championship

Sri Lanka Army athletes showcased exceptional performances at the 26th Asian Athletics Championship, held in Gumi, South Korea, from 27 to 31 May 2025.

The Sri Lanka Army team comprised five female and six male athletes, who brought pride to the nation through their exceptional achievements on the international stage. Staff Sergeant R. Nadeesha of 2 (V) Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps (SLAWC) and Private M.H.J. Uththara of 2 (V) Sri Lanka Army Service Corps secured bronze medals in the Women’s 4x400m Relay. Lance Corporal W.A.M.R. Wijesooriya of 2 (V) SLAWC placed 6th in the 10,000m event, setting a new Sri Lankan record. Warrant Officer II H.K.K. Kumarage of 2 (V) Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers earned two bronze medals in the 400m and the 4x400m mixed relay.

The team returned to Sri Lanka on 01 June 2025 and they were warmly welcomed at Bandaranaike International Airport by Brigadier K.A.D.C.R. Kannangara RSP ndc, Director of Sports of the Sri Lanka Army, along with Senior Officers of the Directorate of Sports and Army Athletic Committee. The athletes were highly commended for their dedication and for elevating the Army’s and the nation’s standing in international athletics.
