Lance Corporal A. Puvitharan of the 2nd Regiment of the Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (SLEME) created history by setting a new national record in the Pole Vault event during the selection trials for the 2026 Asian Games and Commonwealth Games.
The event was held at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Playground on 16 May 2026, where he successfully cleared a height of 5.20 metres, surpassing the previous national record.
