Lance Corporal A. Puvitharan of the 2nd Sri Lanka Electrical & Mechanical Engineers (SLEME) set a new national record in the Pole Vault event held at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Playground, Diyagama, on 19 August 2025. He cleared a height of 5.18 metres during the selections for the Army Athletics Championship 2025.
With this remarkable achievement, Lance Corporal A. Puvitharan now holds both the Sri Lanka Army record and the Army Athletics meet record in the Pole Vault.
