SLEME Restores Army Vehicle Fleet

Under the direction of Commander of the Army a fleet of Army vehicles has been fully restored to motorable condition by the skilled technicians of the Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (SLEME). The repair work carried out at the SLEME Base Workshops, under the supervision of the Directorate of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, have saved the Army a substantial sum of money that would otherwise have been spent on new vehicle acquisitions.

The newly refurbished vehicles were handed over to the respective regimental representatives by Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG, Commander of the Army, during a formal event held at the Army Headquarters on 24 October 2025.

The reconditioned vehicles included twenty-six TATA 1313 and 1613 Trucks, 15 TATA 709 Trucks, 14 Buses, one Unicorn water bowser, one Unibuffel, two Gully bowsers, five Cabs, six Ambulances, four Vans, one Canter lorry and one Car.

In addition, 10 Iron horse trucks were donated to the Sri Lanka Artillery, while 8 DRZ 400 Motorcycles were presented to the Special Forces Regiment.

Major General D.K.S.K. Dolage USP nps psc, Chief of Staff of the Army, Major General Y.A.B.M. Yahampath RWP RSP ndu psc, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Army, Major General K.V.N.P. Premaratne RSP USP nps psc, Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force, Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks, participated in the event.
