In conjunction with the 76th Army Day celebrations held on 10 October 2025, and based on the recommendations made by the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyyakontha (Retd), and Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG, the Commander of the Army, His Excellency the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Mr. Anura Kumara Dissanayake, has approved the promotions of five Brigadiers who were wounded in action, in recognition of their dedicated service to the nation. These officers have been officially promoted to the rank of Major General.
The Commander of the Army formally conferred the rank of Major General upon the newly promoted senior officers during a ceremony held on 12 October 2025 at Army Headquarters.
The Senior Officers promoted to the rank of Major General included Major General W.A.S.R Wijedasa WWV RSP USP ndc psc, Major General E.N Kurukulasuriya RWP RSP psc, Major General M.A.D.J.D Gunathilaka RSP USP and Major General K.A.D.S.K Dharmasena RWP, Major General C.S Thibbotuge.
The ceremony concluded with the official presentation of insignia and the receiving of symbols of authority at the Commander’s Office, followed by a group photograph.
