The military funeral of the late Brigadier I.H.S. Wijesena (Retd) of the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment was held at the General Cemetery, Pussella, on 02 January 2026.
In accordance with military traditions, troops received the remains and paid tribute near the cemetery entrance before placing the coffin on the gun carriage, which was draped with the National Flag.
As the funeral procession reached the main entrance of the cemetery, a representative group of Senior Officers formally received the coffin and escorted it towards the crematorium, followed by family members and Officers.
The formal Special Part I Order, issued by the Adjutant General of the Sri Lanka Army, was then read out to the mourners. Troops, in keeping with military traditions, saluted the deceased and presented a symbolic gun salute, the highest honour accorded to a military Officer upon his demise.
Following the sounding of the Last Post bugle call, signifying that the great soldier had gone to his final rest, the remains were taken to the crematorium.
Thereafter, Major General K.V.N.P. Premaratne RSP USP nps psc, Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force, together with Major General A.M.C. Abeykoon RWP RSP USP ndc, Colonel of the Regiment of the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, presented the bereaved family with the decorations and medals earned by the late Brigadier I.H.S. Wijesena (Retd) during his distinguished military career, in keeping with tradition.
Senior Officers, Officers, family members, and other mourners were present to pay their last respects to the late Senior Officer.
