Captain B.A.D. Saman Devapriya USP, QM–Tech of the 5th Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps (5 SLAMC), conducted a foot pilgrimage on 05 February 2026 in line with the 78th Independence Day, as an expression of religious devotion.
The pilgrimage commenced from the 5th Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps Unit in Habarana and proceeded to the Sacred Sri Jaya Sri Maha Bodhiya in Anuradhapura.
Born on 24 January 1972, Captain Devapriya enlisted in the Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps on 08 May 1996 as a recruit after completing his primary and secondary education. He underwent professional training at the Army School of Nursing, Anuradhapura, and subsequently rendered dedicated service as a nursing officer in numerous military establishments across the island. Having completed an honourable and exemplary military career spanning 31 years, he is due to retire from the Sri Lanka Army on 03 January 2027 upon reaching the age of 55.
The pilgrimage was undertaken with the intention of transferring merit to fallen war heroes who sacrificed their lives for the sovereignty of the nation, invoking blessings upon disabled war heroes, offering merit to those who lost their lives due to the “Ditva” cyclone, and extending blessings and goodwill to all those affected by the disaster.
The pilgrimage concluded with a determination ceremony (Adhishtana Pooja) conducted at the Sacred Ruwanwelisaya, marking the culmination of this spiritually significant endeavour.
