Ex-Servicemen Pin Poppy Flower on Army Chief

In parallel with the forthcoming Poppy Day (November 11) that recollects memories of all fallen War Heroes in the wars, representatives of the Sri Lanka Ex-Servicemen’s Association (SLESA) pinned a Poppy flower on the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage this afternoon (19) at the Commander’s office.

Major General (Retd) EMM Ambanpola USP, Vice President, Ex-Servicemen’s Association, pinned the poppy flower on the Commander of the Army, symbolizing the commencement of this year’s anniversary in a few days.

Lieutenant Colonel (Retd) AK Siyambalapitiya psc lsc, Secretary, Ex-Servicemen’s Association, Major (Retd) PKCS Kankanamge USP, Treasurer, Ex-Servicemen’s Association along with several other members of the Poppy Committee joined the occasion.

During the interaction, the Commander of the Army had a cordial exchange of views with those representatives and inquired into their ongoing welfare projects.

Before their exit, the Commander of the Army appreciated their good work by awarding a memento to the SLESA and extended best wishes for their future endeavours.

Remembrance Day aka the Poppy Day is commemorated every year on 11th November across the world including all Commonwealth member states since the end of the First World War in a bid to honour the sacrifices of members of the Armed Forces who had laid their lives in the line of duty.
