Construction of Houses for Displaced Families in Poonagala Underway with Sri Lanka Army Support

The Sri Lanka Army is supporting the construction of new houses for displaced families in Poonagala, Bandarawela. The project aims to provide permanent housing for 50 families who were displaced following a devastating landslide that occurred in the area two years ago. In line with the Clean Sri Lanka initiative, which emphasises social empowerment and overall wellbeing, this effort is being conducted as part of broader national development objectives.

This housing initiative, launched under the Ministry of Plantation and Community Infrastructure, is being executed by troops of the Engineer Services Regiment.

As of now, construction work on 40 houses has commenced and the project is progressing steadily, with completion scheduled for the end of November 2025.
