One of the most revered War Heroes in Sri Lanka, the late Corporal Gamini Kularathna of the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, who laid down his life 34 years ago in defence of the Elephant Pass camp, was commemorated on 14 July 2025 in front of his statue at the Elephant Pass premises during a solemn ceremony organised by the 6th Battalion of the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment.
The Commander, Security Forces (Jaffna), Major General K.A.N. Rasika Kumara ndc psc, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Several other Senior Officers and close relatives of the late Corporal Gamini Kularathna also participated in the 34th death commemoration at the monument.
The ceremony commenced with the playing of the National Anthem, followed by observances by the gathering. A Vigil Mounting was then conducted, and a two-minute silence was observed in remembrance of the fallen War Heroes.
Subsequently, the day’s Chief Guest placed a floral wreath and paid his respects to all fallen War Heroes. This was followed by Senior Officers and close relatives of the late Corporal Gamini Kularathna, who also laid floral wreaths at the War Heroes’ monument at the Elephant Pass statue premises.
