Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG, Commander of the Army, commended Sri Lanka Army athletes for their exceptional performances at the 4th South Asian Senior Athletics Championship 2025 held in Ranchi, India. The event brought immense pride to the nation and the Sri Lanka Army, as the athletes secured an impressive tally of 12 gold, 8 silver and 7 bronze medals.
A felicitation ceremony was held on 30 October 2025 at the Army Headquarters and the Army Chief personally appreciated the athletes’ dedication and achievements. During the event, he presented cash incentives to encourage their continued success in future competitions. The event was attended by Major General D.K.S.K. Dolage USP nps psc, Chief of Staff of the Army, Colonels of Regiments and Colonel Commandants, the Director of Sports, and coaches.
Recognising their outstanding performances, 18 Army athletes were promoted to their substantive ranks as follows:
Bombardier K.K.D.N. Dharmasena - Hammer Throw (Bronze Medal), promoted to the rank of Sergeant.
Bombardier S.A.T. Dasun - High Jump (Gold Medal), promoted to the rank of Sergeant.
Corporal G.R. Chathuranga - 1500 m (Silver Medal), promoted to the rank of Sergeant.
Corporal W.D.M.M.S. Dissanayaka - Discus Throw (Bronze Medal), promoted to the rank of Sergeant.
Lance Corporal D.T.A. De Silva - 100 m (Silver Medal), 4 × 100 m Relay (Gold Medal) - achieved a new meet record, clocking 44.70 seconds, promoted to the rank of Corporal.
Lance Corporal M.Y.F. Safiya - 100 m (Gold Medal) - achieved a new meet record, clocking 11.53 seconds and emerged as South Asia’s fastest woman, 4 × 100 m Relay (Gold Medal) - achieved a new meet record, clocking 44.70 seconds, 200 m (Gold Medal) achieved a new meet record, clocking 23.58 seconds, promoted to the rank of Corporal.
Lance Corporal V. Vaksan - 5000 m (Silver Medal), promoted to the rank of Corporal.
Lance Corporal D.M.H.S. Karunarathne - 800 m (Gold Medal), promoted to the rank of Corporal.
Lance Corporal Y.C.M. Yodhasinghe - 100 m (Gold Medal) - achieved a new meet record, clocking 10.30 seconds and emerged as South Asia’s fastest man, 4 × 100 m Relay (Gold Medal), promoted to the rank of Corporal.
Lance Corporal K.A.P. Malshan - Triple Jump (Gold Medal), promoted to the rank of Corporal.
Lance Corporal R.P. Gamage - High Jump (Silver Medal), promoted to the rank of Corporal.
Infantryman D.D.S. Diyalawaththa - 4 × 100 m Relay (Gold Medal), promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal.
Private N.M.P.P. Silva - 4 × 100 m Relay (Gold Medal), promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal.
Private R.M. Nifras - 1500 m (Bronze Medal), promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal.
Private W.A.M.R. Wijesooriya - 10000 m (Gold Medal), promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal.
Private S.K. Mithumraj - Shot Put (Bronze Medal), promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal.
