Commander of the Army Commends Notable Service of Retiring Major General

Major General K.A.N. Rasika Kumara ndc psc, Commander, Security Forces (Jaffna) and Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Engineer Services, was invited to the office of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG, on 13 January 2026, prior to his retirement from the Sri Lanka Army following a distinguished military career spanning over 35 years.

Major General K.A.N. Rasika Kumara ndc psc enlisted in the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army as an Officer Cadet of Intake PMA 01 on 07 September 1990. Upon successful completion of military training at the Pakistan Military Academy (PMA), he was commissioned in the rank of Second Lieutenant and posted to the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers on 21 December 1992.

Having been steadily elevated through successive ranks, he was promoted to the rank of Major General on 19 August 2023. The Senior Officer will retire from the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army with effect from 19 January 2026 upon reaching 55 years of age. At the time of his retirement, he holds the appointments of Commander, Security Forces (Jaffna), and Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Engineer Services.

Throughout his illustrious military career, the Senior Officer held numerous key command, staff and instructional appointments. These included Troop Commander of the 5th Field Engineer Regiment, Adjutant of the 5th and 8th Field Engineer Regiments, Intelligence Officer of the 8th Field Engineer Regiment, General Staff Officer Grade 3 at Headquarters Engineer Brigade, Aide-de-Camp to late Major General K.J.C. Perera (Retd) RWP RSP VSV USP rcds psc, Officer Commanding of 81 Field Squadron of the 8th Field Engineer Regiment, Staff Officer Grade 3 (Administration) at the Regimental Centre of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers, and General Staff Officer Grade 2 (Operations/Training) at Security Force Headquarters (Jaffna).

He also served as Brigade Major of Headquarters 511 Infantry Brigade, Staff Officer Grade 1 at the Chief of Staff’s Office, Army Headquarters, Staff Officer Grade 1 (Investigation Cell) at the Military Secretary’s Branch and Commanding Officer of the 6th Field Engineer Regiment.

In addition, the Senior Officer served overseas as Deputy Chief U9 and Chief U9 at Force Headquarters of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH). His subsequent appointments included Commanding Officer of the 5th Field Engineer Regiment, General Staff Officer Grade 1 (Operations) at the Directorate of Operations, Army Headquarters, General Staff Officer Grade 1 (Operations) at Security Force Headquarters (Wanni), Colonel (General Staff) of Headquarters 22 Infantry Division, Colonel Training (Foreign) at the Directorate of Training, Army Headquarters, Military Assistant to the Commander of the Army, Commander of the 213 Infantry Brigade, Director of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law, Director of Psychological Operations, Director of Overseas Operations, Director General of Media and Psychological Operations, Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Engineer Services, General Officer Commanding of the 22 Infantry Division, Director General General Staff at Army Headquarters, and Commander of Security Forces (Jaffna).

The Senior Officer successfully completed several professional military courses, including the Platoon Commanders’ Tactics Course, Officer Par Excellence Course, Unit Accounts Officers’ Course, Unit Administration Course, Army Command and Staff Course and the National Security and Strategic Studies Course.

He also attended several overseas military courses, including the Young Officers’ Course (India), Engineer Officers’ Combat Engineering Instructors Course (India), Army Command and Staff Course (China) and Mine and Blasting Engineer Command Course (China).

In addition to his military qualifications, the Senior Officer obtained a Master of Science in National Security and Strategic Studies from the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University and a Diploma in Mine and Blasting Engineer Command from the Engineer Academy of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (CPLA), China.
