Commander of the Army Commends the Distinguished Service of the Retiring Major General

Major General E.N. Kurukulasuriya RWP RSP psc, Commandant of the Joint Services Language Training School, was invited to the office of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG, on 18 February 2026, prior to his retirement from the Sri Lanka Army following a distinguished military career spanning over 35 years.

Brief profile of the retiring Senior Officer:

Major General E.N. Kurukulasuriya RWP RSP psc enlisted in the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army as an Officer Cadet under Intake 35 on 02 January 1991. Upon successful completion of military training at the Sri Lanka Military Academy, Diyatalawa, he was commissioned in the rank of Second Lieutenant and posted to the Gajaba Regiment on 29 August 1992. After steady elevated through subsequent ranks during his service, he was promoted to the rank of Major General on 10 October 2025. The Senior Officer will retire from the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army with effect from 02 March 2026 on reaching 55 years of age. At the time of retirement, he holds the appointment of Commandant, Joint Services Language Training School.

Throughout his illustrious military career, the Senior Officer held numerous key appointments. He served as Platoon Commander, 4 Battalion the Gajaba Regiment, Officer Instructor, Sri Lanka Military Academy, Adjutant, 4 Battalion the Gajaba Regiment, Officer Commanding, 4 Battalion the Gajaba Regiment, Aide-de-Camp to Late Major General W.A.D.G.A. Gunasekara RSP USP psc, Operations and Training Officer, 4 Battalion the Gajaba Regiment, Officer Commanding, 4 Battalion the Gajaba Regiment, Staff Officer 3 (Administration), Combat Training School, Instructor, Battalion Training School, Infantry Training Centre, Officer Commanding, 8 Battalion the Gajaba Regiment, Staff Officer 2 (Administration), Directorate of Infantry, General Staff Officer 2 (Operations), Headquarters, 21 Infantry Division and Second-in-Command, 9 Battalion the Gajaba Regiment.

He also served as Staff Officer, United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH), Second-in-Command, 12 Battalion the Gajaba Regiment, General Staff Officer 1 (Coordinating), Headquarters, 11 Infantry Division, Commanding Officer, 16 Battalion the Gajaba Regiment, Commanding Officer, Training Wing, Army Training School, Staff Officer 1 (Administration and Quartering), Headquarters, 11 Infantry Division, Chief Instructor, Joint Services Language Training School, Deputy Commandant, Joint Services Language Training School, Project Officer, Security Force Headquarters (Central) and Commandant, Joint Services Language Training School.

In recognition of his dedicated and exemplary service, he was awarded the Rana Wickrama Padakkama and Rana Sura Padakkama (awarded twice).

The Senior Officer successfully completed several professional military courses, including Combat Air Assault Operations Training Course, Unit Accounting Officers Course, Company Commanders Course, Battalion Support Weapons Officers’ Course, Human Rights Law Course, Law of Armed Conflict Officer Instructors Training Course, International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights Advanced Refresher Training Course for Officer Instructors, Army Command and Staff Course and Global Information System (GIS) Course.

He also attended a number of overseas courses, including Young Officers Course – India, Junior Command Course – India and Basic Parachute Course – India.

In addition to his military qualifications, the Senior Officer obtained a Diploma in Computer Systems and Applications at Government Autonomous Holkar Science College, Indore, India and a Diploma in Disaster Management at the University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka.
