Commander of the Army commends the distinguished career of retiring Major General

Major General L.S.D.N. Pathirathna RSP USP, Director General of Quality Assurance and Inspection, Army Headquarters, was invited to the office of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG, on 03 March 2026, prior to his retirement from the Sri Lanka Army following a distinguished military career spanning over 33 years.

Brief Profile of the Retiring Senior Officer:

Major General L.S.D.N. Pathirathna RSP USP enlisted in the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army as an Officer Cadet to Intake 39 on 04 January 1993. Upon successful completion of military training at the Sri Lanka Military Academy, he was commissioned in the rank of Second Lieutenant and posted to the Sri Lanka Armoured Corps on 09 April 1994.

During his tenure, he was promoted to subsequent ranks in recognition of his dedicated service and was elevated to the rank of Major General on 26 January 2026. The Senior Officer will retire from the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army with effect from 09 March 2026 on reaching 55 years of age. At the time of retirement, he holds the appointment of Director General, Quality Assurance and Inspection, Army Headquarters.

Throughout his illustrious military career, the Senior Officer held numerous key appointments. He served as Troop Leader, Bravo Squadron, 5 Reconnaissance Regiment, Sri Lanka Armoured Corps, Technical Adjutant, 5 Reconnaissance Regiment, Sri Lanka Armoured Corps, Assistant Adjutant, 5 Reconnaissance Regiment, Sri Lanka Armoured Corps, Adjutant, 5 Reconnaissance Regiment, Sri Lanka Armoured Corps, Officiating Officer Commanding, Bravo Squadron, 5 Reconnaissance Regiment, Sri Lanka Armoured Corps, Squadron Second-in-Command, 5 Reconnaissance Regiment, Sri Lanka Armoured Corps, Officer Commanding, Alpha Squadron, 5 Reconnaissance Regiment, Sri Lanka Armoured Corps, Officer Commanding, Bravo Squadron, 1 Reconnaissance Regiment, Sri Lanka Armoured Corps and Officer Commanding, Delta Squadron, President’s Security Unit.

In recognition of his dedicated and exemplary service, he was awarded the Rana Sura Padakkama (RSP) and the Uththama Seva Padakkama (USP).

The Senior Officer successfully completed several professional military courses, including the Infantry Young Officers Course, Unit Administration Course, Armour Young Officers Course, Unit Accounts Officers Course, Advanced Unit Accounts Course, Unit Intelligence Officers Course, Junior Staff Course, Potential Military Observers and Staff Officers Course and the United Nations Protection of Civilians Course.

He also attended a number of overseas courses, including the Armoured Corps Young Officers Basic Course in Pakistan, Armament Instructor Officers Course in India, Junior Staff Course linked with the Mid-Career Course in Pakistan, Combat Team Commanders Course in India and Combat Group Commanders Course in India.
