Chief of the Army Staff of India Concludes Official Visit to Sri Lanka

General Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) of the Indian Army, along with his spouse, Mrs. Sunita Dwivedi concluded their official visit to Sri Lanka, which commenced on 06 January 2026. The visit marked a significant step towards further strengthening bilateral defence cooperation between Sri Lanka and India.

During the visit, General Dwivedi held high-level discussions with senior military and government officials of Sri Lanka. The deliberations focused on enhancing training cooperation, professional military education and addressing regional security concerns.

As part of the official programme, the Indian COAS visited several Sri Lanka Army formations and military installations. He also made a generous donations for the benefit of the Sri Lanka Army, reflecting the longstanding friendship and mutual respect shared between the armed forces of the two nations.

Prior to his departure, Major General D.K.S.K. Dolage USP nps psc, Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army, presented special mementos to General Dwivedi and Mrs. Sunita Dwivedi as a token of appreciation for the visit. The gesture was warmly reciprocated by the visiting delegation.

The occasion was attended by Directors of Army Headquarters, officials from the High Commission of India in Sri Lanka, senior officers and other invited officers.
