Army troops assisted the ‘Samanolasiri Haritha Wandana’ National Programme, organised as part of the “Clean Sri Lanka” initiative, under the guidance of Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG, Commander of the Army, on 19 February 2026 at Nallathanniya.
The event was graced by Hon. (Dr.) Dammika Patabendi, Minister of Environment as the Chief Guest together with Mr. S.P.C. Sugeeshwara, Additional Secretary of the Clean Sri Lanka Programme.
The programme aimed to preserve the environmental sanctity of the pilgrimage area and promote sustainable practices. Participants carried out cleaning and waste management at key locations, with guidance on proper disposal and public awareness, while street dramas educated pilgrims and collected waste was safely removed.
Brigadier M.N. Gunawardana psc IG, Coordinating Officer of Army Clean Sri Lanka programme, senior officers, government officials, other ranks and civilians participated in the event.
