Two workers lost their lives in a tragic accident at a stone quarry in Liyangahawela on 14 February 2026.
Following a request from the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) – Badulla, troops of 23rd Battalion of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment under 112 Infantry Brigade of the Sri Lanka Army were promptly deployed to assist rescue and recovery efforts alongside the Police and DMC officials.
Despite hazardous conditions at the site, Army personnel successfully recovered the bodies and handed them over to the relevant authorities for further legal action.
