A sudden fire erupted at a private industrial facility which manufactures helmets and plastic goods in Paragahadeniya, Mawatagama, on 10 February 2026.
Troops of the 9th Battalion of the Sri Lanka National Guard (9 SLNG) promptly responded to the emergency and closely assisted the Fire Brigades of Kurunegala and Kandy to bring the blaze under control. The troops supported firefighters in containing the flames and preventing further damage.
In addition, 9 SLNG troops assisted in unloading plastic materials stored in an adjoining building to prevent the spread of the fire. They also extended their support to the Mawatagama Police by securing the area, preventing civilians from entering the factory premises and easing traffic congestion in the vicinity.
The Deputy Director of the Disaster Management Centre (DMC), Kurunegala, and the Divisional Secretary of Mawatagama closely coordinated with the troops and other authorities to effectively manage the situation.
