The 13th Defence Services Karate Tournament was hosted by the Sri Lanka Army on 04 and 05 August 2025 at the Indoor Stadium of the Army Physical Training School, Panagoda.
Major General R.D. Salley, Chairman of the Army Karate Committee, graced the event as the Chief Guest.
During the tournament, Army players showcased exceptional skill, securing 6 Gold, 8 Silver and 2 Bronze medals in the Men’s category. They emerged victorious in 6 out of the 7 men’s weight classes, earning a total of 58 points. This outstanding performance enabled the Army to clinch the championship title for the fourth consecutive year.
The following athletes won Gold medals in their respective categories:
• Kumite (under 50kg): Lance Corporal Priyadarshana – 19 Sri Lanka National Guard
• Kumite (under 55kg): Staff Sergeant Bandara – 19 Sri Lanka National Guard
• Kumite (under 60kg): Corporal Dias – 8 Sri Lanka Light Infantry
• Kumite (under 67kg): Lance Corporal Silva – 1 Sri Lanka Engineers
• Kumite (under 84kg): Sergeant Karunaratne – 2 (V) Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps
• Kumite (under 50kg): Staff Sergeant Weerasinghe – 1 Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police
Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks from the tri-services were present at the event.
