Army Players Shine at Layton Cup Boxing Tournament - 2025

The Layton Cup Boxing Tournament, organized by the Sri Lanka Boxing Association, was held on 20, 21, 22, and 23 July 2025 at the Royal College Indoor Stadium, Colombo.

A total of 92 male and 42 female players representing 25 sports clubs participated in the competition. The Army men’s team won 07 gold medals in 10 weight classes, along with 01 silver medal and 02 bronze medals, securing first place in the overall medals tally. Meanwhile, the Army Red team secured 01 gold medal, 02 silver medals, and 03 bronze medals, thereby achieving second place in the overall medal tally. Accordingly, the men’s team collectively secured 08 gold medals, 02 silver medals, and 08 bronze medals, bringing great glory to the Army.

The Army Women’s Team, comprising nine athletes, delivered an impressive performance by winning 02 gold medals, 04 silver medals, and 03 bronze medals, further adding to the Army’s prestige in the tournament. The Best Athlete award was presented to Lance Corporal M.G.M.T. Dasunika of 2(V) Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps Unit, who competed in the under-54kg weight category.
