Army Infantryman Sets a New Serendib World Record on Army’s 76th Anniversary

Infantryman R.W.V. Piyathissa of the Gajaba Regiment, an inmate of Abhimansala II, Kamburupitiya, achieved yet another remarkable milestone by setting a Serendib World Record in honour of the Sri Lanka Army’s 76th Anniversary.

Despite being visually impaired due to war injuries, the soldier continues to exemplify courage, faith and determination through his extraordinary endurance challenges as a visually impaired individual.

Continuing his inspiring journey, on 09 October 2025, he commenced a long distance walk from Seenigama to the War Heroes’ Monument at Battaramulla, completing the challenge in 18 hours, 51 minutes, and 12 seconds on 10 October 2025.

Upon the conclusion of the walk, he was warmly welcomed by Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG, Commander of the Army.

This event, conducted in line with the Sri Lanka Army’s 76th Anniversary celebrations, was officially recognised by Dr. Lal Ekanayake, President of Serendib World Records (Private) Limited, marking it as his 8th Serendib World Record and further strengthening his legacy as a symbol of perseverance and patriotic spirit.
