Embracing the spirit of the forthcoming Sinhala and Tamil New Year 2025 with traditional flair, the Army Headquarters organised a festive celebration on 09 April 2025 at the Regimental Centre, Sri Lanka Light Infantry.
Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG, Commander of the Army, together with Mrs. Swendrini Dissanayake, President of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU), graced the occasion as Chief Guests.
The day began with the Commander of the Army and other invitees lighting the traditional oil lamp in the specially designed Gemi Gedara. Following this, the Chief Guests and other distinguished guests toured various thematic locations in the premises, thoughtfully arranged to recreate a traditional village atmosphere.
The celebration came alive with a vibrant mix of tradition and entertainment, featuring various cultural games and activities. A captivating demonstration of the traditional martial art Angampora was also featured, accompanied by a brief introduction.
Concluding the day’s events, the Commander of the Army and special invitees presented prizes and trophies to winners of the various competitions. The Commander also presented special gifts to children of the Viru Kekulu preschool and disabled war heroes in attendance.
The Chief of Staff, Deputy Chief of Staff, Principal Staff Officers, Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks participated in the festival.
