Army Chief Lauds Distinguished Service of Retiring Senior Officer

Major General D.C. Mahathanthila psc, Commander, Logistics Command, Security Force Headquarters (Wanni), was invited to the office of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG, on 23 October 2025, prior to his retirement from the Sri Lanka Army after a distinguished military career spanning over 34 years.

Brief Profile of the Retiring Senior Officer:

Major General D.C. Mahathanthila psc enlisted in the Volunteer Force of the Sri Lanka Army as an Officer Cadet for the Intake VF 05 on 26 December 1991. Upon successful completion of military training at the Sri Lanka Military Academy, Diyatalawa, he was commissioned in the rank of Second Lieutenant and posted to the Sri Lanka Army Pioneer Corps on 06 June 1992.

Subsequently, he was enlisted into the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army and posted to the Military Intelligence Corps on 06 June 1996. After being steadily elevated to subsequent ranks over the course of his military career, he was promoted to the rank of Major General on 28 February 2025. The senior officer will retire from the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army with effect from 31 October 2025, upon reaching 55 years of age. At the time of his retirement, he was holding the appointment of Commander, Logistics Command, Security Force Headquarters (Wanni).

During his illustrious career, he served in many key appointments including Platoon Commander of Headquarters 6 Infantry Brigade (Weli Oya), Platoon Commander of Sri Lanka Army Pioneer Corps, Intelligence Officer of Headquarters 6 Infantry Brigade (Jaffna), Senior Intelligence Officer of Headquarters 54 Infantry Division, Senior Intelligence Officer of 55 Infantry Division, Adjutant of 1st Regiment Military Intelligence Corps, Senior Intelligence Officer of 22 Infantry Division, Senior Intelligence Officer of 11 Infantry Division, Adjutant of Regimental Centre Military Intelligence Corps, Second-in-Command of 2nd Regiment Military Intelligence Corps, Senior Assessment Officer of Sri Lanka Battalion United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH), Commanding Officer of 1st Regiment Military Intelligence Corps, Commanding Officer of 5th Regiment Military Intelligence Corps, First Secretary (Defence), Sri Lanka Embassy in Paris France, General Staff Officer 1 of Directorate of Military Intelligence, Coordinator (Foreign Intelligence) of Ministry of Defence, Deputy Centre Commandant of Regimental Centre Military Intelligence Corps, Colonel (Intelligence) of Directorate of Military Intelligence, Senior Staff Officer of National Intelligence Division Ministry of Defence, Director of Directorate of Military Intelligence, Project Officer of Security Force Headquarters (West), Commandant of Centre for Army Vocational Training (CAVT) and Commander of Logistics Command, Security Force Headquarters (Wanni).

He successfully completed numerous local courses including Basic Intelligence Course, Adjutant Course, International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights Law Instructors Course for Officer Instructors of the Sri Lankan Security Forces at the Sri Lanka Institute of Development Administration (SLIDA), Human Rights Instructor Training Course for Officers of the Armed Forces organised by the British High Commission of Sri Lanka, Advanced Refresher Training Course on International Humanitarian Law at Hector Kobbekaduwa Agrarian Research and Training Institute, Law of Armed Conflict Course conducted by the International Committee of the Red Cross, Army Command and Staff Course and General Course in Diplomacy and International Relations at the Bandaranaike International Diplomatic Training Institute (BIDTI).

Overseas, he has followed the Basic Intelligence Course in Bangladesh, Basic Intelligence Officers Course in the United States of America, Military Intelligence Captains Career Course in the United States of America, Agent Operations Interviewing Skills Course in Australia and International Intelligence Directors Course in the United Kingdom.

The senior officer also obtained a Certificate in Disaster Management at the Sri Lanka Institute of Development Administration (SLIDA) in 2009, a Postgraduate Diploma in Conflict and Peace Studies at the University of Colombo and a Master’s Degree in Conflict and Peace Studies at the same university.
