Army Chief Lauds the Distinguished Service of Retiring Major General

Major General K.A.U. Kodituwakku RSP USP psc IG, General Officer Commanding, 11 Infantry Division, was invited to the Office of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG, along with his family members on 25 June 2025, prior to his retirement from the Sri Lanka Army after completing a distinguished military career spanning 34 years.

Below is the brief profile of the retiring Senior Officer:

Major General K.A.U. Kodituwakku RSP USP psc IG enlisted in the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army as an Officer Cadet on 02 January 1991. Upon successful completion of military training at the Sri Lanka Military Academy, Diyatalawa, he was commissioned in the rank of Second Lieutenant and posted to the Regiment of Sri Lanka Artillery on 29 August 1992. He was steadily elevated to subsequent ranks during his service and was promoted to the rank of Major General on 05 June 2024. He will retire from the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army with effect from 26 June 2025 upon reaching 55 years of age. At the time of retirement, he was holding the appointments of General Officer Commanding, 11 Infantry Division and Chairman, Sri Lanka Army Football Committee.

Throughout his illustrious career, Major General K.A.U. Kodituwakku RSP USP psc IG held a range of key appointments. These included Troop Commander and Intelligence Officer of the 7th Light Regiment Sri Lanka Artillery, Battery Captain of the 20th Battery, Adjutant of the 9th Field Regiment, and Battery Commander of the 141st Rocket Battery of the 14th Rocket Regiment. He also served as Staff Officer 3 (Additional) at the Regimental Centre of the Sri Lanka Artillery, Battery Commander of the 91st Battery of the 9th Field Regiment, and Brigade Major at the Headquarters, Artillery Brigade. He continued his duties as Battery Commander of the 17th Battery in the 6th Field Regiment, and as Directing Staff at the Officers Study Centre, Sri Lanka Military Academy. Further, he served as Staff Officer 1 at the Artillery Brigade Headquarters and the Regimental Centre of the Sri Lanka Artillery.

He contributed internationally as a Military Observer for the United Nations Mission in Sudan (UNMIS), and locally as Head of the Training Team at the Officers Study Centre, Commanding Officer of the 8th Medium Regiment, and Senior Instructor at the Officer Career Development Centre. He was also held the appointment as Commandant of the School of Artillery, Colonel (Ceremonial) and Colonel (Administration) at the Directorate of Personnel Administration, Army Headquarters, and later held command as the Commander of the 613 Infantry Brigade. He subsequently served as Director, Directorate of Personnel Administration, Deputy General Officer Commanding of the 14 Infantry Division Headquarters, and finally as General Officer Commanding, 11 Infantry Division.

In recognition of his dedicated and valiant service to the Sri Lanka Army, he has been awarded the Rana Sura Padakkama (RSP) and Utthama Seva Padakkama (USP).

The Senior Officer has successfully completed a number of local training courses including the Young Officers’ Preparatory Course, Basic Intelligence Course, Army Command and Staff Course, International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights Training Course, International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights Instructor Course, and the Potential Observer and Staff Officers’ Course.

He has also followed several overseas training programmes, including the Artillery Young Officers’ (Field) Course in India, Multi-Barrel Rocket Launcher Course in Pakistan, Mid-Career Course in Pakistan, Long Gunnery Staff Course in India, Artillery Battalion Commander’s Course in China, the Mainstreaming Gender into Community-Based Disaster Risk Management Training Course in Kenya, and the Building Integrity for Senior Leaders Course in the United Kingdom.

In terms of academic achievements, the Senior Officer holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Defence Studies (Management) from General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University and a Master’s Degree in Labour Relations and Human Resource Management from the University of Colombo.

He has also participated in international forums such as the Army Command and Staff College Study Tour in Pakistan in 2004 and the South-East Asian Regional Counter-Terrorism Conference held in Thailand in 2018.
