Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, the Commander of the Army, was invited by the National Defence College (NDC) to deliver the "Commander's Lecture," themed “Sri Lanka Army Concerns on National Security” on 24 October 2024.
The lecture provided a comprehensive overview of the security challenges and concerns faced by the Sri Lanka Army, addressing both prevailing and looming threats while emphasizing their diversified nature. A comprehensive account on the future transformation initiatives of the Army was also given. The lecture also facilitated an interactive session, allowing student officers to engage with the Commander through queries and clarifications.
The NDC hosted the lecture for student officers enrolled in the National Security and Strategic Studies Course No. 03-2024, which includes 16 officers from the Army, 8 from the Navy, 6 from the Air Force, 3 from the Police, and 8 foreign students representing Saudi Arabia, India, Bangladesh, and Oman.
Major General D.G.S Senarath Yapa RWP RSP ndu, the NDC Commandant, warmly welcomed the Army Chief, while Brigadier M.J.R.S Medagoda RSP USP ndc psc IG, the Senior Directing Staff (Army), conducted the introductory speech for the day’s lecture.
At the conclusion of the lecture, the Commander extended his best wishes to all student officers and left thoughtful remarks in the NDC Visitors' Book. In a gesture of mutual respect, the Commandant presented a memento to the Commander of the Army and the gesture was reciprocated. Before departing, the Commander posed for a group photograph with the distinguished attendees.
