Major General K.H.M.S Wickramaratne RSP was invited to the office of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG, on 25 March 2026, prior to his retirement from the Sri Lanka Army after a distinguished military career spanning over 33 years.
Major General K.H.M.S Wickramaratne RSP enlisted in the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army as an Officer Cadet on 07 September 1990. Upon successful completion of military training at the Pakistan Military Academy, he was commissioned in the rank of Second Lieutenant and posted to the Commando Regiment on 13 March 1991. After being steadily elevated to subsequent ranks, he was promoted to the rank of Major General on 13 October 2023. The Senior Officer will retire from the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army with effect from 07 April 2026 on reaching 55 years of age. At the time of retirement, he holds the appointments of Master General Ordnance, Army Headquarters, and Colonel of the Regiment, Commando Regiment.
During his tenure, the Senior Officer has performed duties as Team Commander E Group, 1 Commando Regiment, Officiating Officer Commanding E Group, 1 Commando Regiment, General Staff Officer 3 Operations at Headquarters 513 Infantry Brigade, Officer Commanding B Group, 1 Commando Regiment, Personal Security Officer to the then Minister of Foreign Affairs, Second-in-Command, 3 Commando Regiment, Chief Instructor, Commando Regiment Training School, Commanding Officer, 5 Commando Regiment, Personal Security Officer to General J Jayasuriya (Retd) RWP VSV USP ndu psc, the then Commander of the Army and Chief of Defence Staff, Commandant, Commando Regiment Training School, Commander, 661 Infantry Brigade, Personal Security Officer to the then Secretary to the Ministry of Defence and the 8th Executive President of Sri Lanka, General Officer Commanding, 61 and 53 Infantry Division, Colonel of the Regiment, Commando Regiment, Commander, 1 Corps, and Master General Ordnance, Army Headquarters.
In recognition of his dedicated service rendered during his tenure in the Sri Lanka Army, the Senior Officer has been awarded the Rana Sura Padakkama.
The Senior Officer has successfully followed several local and overseas courses including the Basic Commando Course, Advanced Commando Course, Par Excellence Course for Officers, Basic Parachute Training Course, Anti-Hijack and Hostage Release Course, and Advanced Parachute Training Course. Overseas training includes the Commando Course in India, Young Officers’ Infantry Course in Pakistan, Anti-Armour Course for Officers in Pakistan and Junior Command and Staff Course in Bangladesh.
