Major General W.A.S.R Wijedasa WWV RSP USP ndc psc, Director General of Directorate of Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation, Army Headquarters, was invited to the office of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG, on 23 October 2025, prior to his retirement from the Sri Lanka Army after a distinguished military career spanning over 35 years.
Brief Profile of the Retiring Senior Officer:
Major General W.A.S.R Wijedasa WWV RSP USP ndc psc enlisted in the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army under Intake 33 as an Officer Cadet on 17 January 1990. Upon successful completion of military training at the Sri Lanka Military Academy, Diyatalawa, he was commissioned in the rank of Second Lieutenant and posted to the Sri Lanka Armoured Corps on 15 June 1991.
After being steadily elevated to subsequent ranks during his career in the Army, he was promoted to the rank of Major General on 10 October 2025. The Senior Officer will retire from the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army with effect from 29 October 2025 upon reaching 55 years of age. At the time of his retirement, he was holding the appointment of Director General of Directorate of Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation, Army Headquarters.
During his illustrious career, he held many key appointments including Troop Leader of 1st Reconnaissance Regiment Sri Lanka Armoured Corps and 4th Armoured Regiment Sri Lanka Armoured Corps, Technical Adjutant of 4th Armoured Regiment Sri Lanka Armoured Corps, Officer Commanding, 4th Armoured Regiment Sri Lanka Armoured Corps, Staff Officer 3 of the Regimental Centre, Sri Lanka Armoured Corps, Technical Adjutant of Headquarters, Armoured Brigade, Production Manager (Finishing Department) of Ranaviru Apparel, Yakkala, Staff Officer 2 (Academics) of the Sri Lanka Military Academy, Directing Staff of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force Training School, Senior Production Manager of Ranaviru Apparel, Yakkala, General Staff Officer 1 (Operations - Additional) of the Directorate of Operations, Army Headquarters, Commandant of the Armoured Corps Training Centre, Directing Staff of the Defence Services Command and Staff College, Colonel (Training) of the Directorate of Training, Army Headquarters, Brigadier (Doctrine & Strategy) of the Army Training Command (ARTRAC), Secretary of the National Defence College, Senior Directing Staff (Army) of the National Defence College, Deputy Commandant of the Defence Services Command and Staff College, Director of Directorate of Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation and Director General of Directorate of Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation.
In recognition of his committed and valiant service to the Sri Lanka Army, he was awarded the Weera Wickrama Vibushanaya (WWV), Rana Sura Padakkama (RSP), and Uttama Seva Padakkama (USP).
He has successfully completed numerous local courses including the Army Command and Staff Course and the National Security and Strategic Studies Course.
Overseas, he followed several professional courses such as the Young Officers (Armour) Course – Pakistan, Auto Instructor Officers Course – India, Combat Group Commanders Course – India, Defence Attaché Orientation Course – Switzerland, and Leadership in International Security Course – Switzerland.
The senior officer holds a Certificate in Clothing Production and Technology from the Phoenix College of Clothing Technology, Sri Lanka, a Diploma in Professional Diplomacy and World Affairs from the Bandaranaike International Diplomatic Training Institute, a Postgraduate Diploma in Human Resource Advancement and a Master’s Degree in Human Resource Management from the University of Colombo. He also obtained a Master of Advanced Studies in International and European Security from the University of Geneva, Switzerland.
