Following the cyclone Ditwa, the main access route to Sri Pada via Mahagiridamba was severely affected by landslides and the staircase at Mahagiridamba became unsafe for devotees. Despite the Sri Pada pilgrimage season having commenced on 04 December 2025, pilgrims encountered significant difficulties along this section of the route.
In response, and on the instructions of the Commander of the Army, troops initiated measures to strengthen the damaged staircase to ensure the safety of pilgrims. Preliminary repair work is underway under the supervision of the Directorate of Engineer Services, while troops are engaged in transporting essential construction materials from the base to the upper sections of the route.
