76th Army Day Events Commence with Religious Blessings at Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi

The annual Army Flag Blessing Ceremony, held on the occasion of Army Day on 10 October and the 76th Anniversary celebrations, commenced this morning (26) at the sacred Anuradhapura Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi premises under the leadership of Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG, Commander of the Army.

In accordance with traditions, the Army Chief first paid homage to the Atamasthanadhipathi, Most Venerable Dr. Pallegama Hemarathna Nayaka Thero.

The Most Venerable Ithala Watunu Wewa Gnanathilaka Maha Thero, Chief Incumbent of the Ruwanweli Maha Seya, led the chanting of Pansil, after which the Most Venerable Ralapanawe Dhammajothi Thero, Chief Incumbent of the Lankarama Rajamaha Viharaya, delivered a special Anushasana, commending the Army’s dedicated service to the nation.

Following the religious observances, Major General K.T.P de Silva RSP ndu psc, Adjutant General of the Sri Lanka Army read out the Commander’s message marking the 76th Anniversary.

Major General Y.A.B.M Yahampath RWP RSP ndu psc, Deputy Chief of Staff the Army, Major General K.V.N.P Premaratne RSP USP nps psc, Commandant of Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force, Principal Staff Officers, Security Forces Commanders, Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks participated in the ceremony.
