The Gajaba Regiment commemorated the 33rd Death Anniversary of its founding father, the late Major General Vijaya Wimalaratne RWP RSP VSV USP psc, under the guidance of the Colonel of the Regiment and Commander, Security Forces (West) Major General U.K.D.D.P Udugama RWP RSP USP ndc psc, with the participation and support of serving and retired Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks on 8 August 2025.
The day commenced with a floral tribute at the late General’s statue in Kiribathgoda by the Colonel of the Regiment, Senior Officers and family members, honouring his distinguished service and sacrifice.
Religious observances were held at the Ruwanweli Maha Saya, Kelaniya Rajamaha Viharaya and Panagoda Bhodhirajaramaya, invoking blessings and transferring merit to the fallen leader. In parallel, the Regiment conducted a charity programme at a children’s orphanage in Saliyapura, offering meals to the children and staff as an act of merit and a demonstration to its enduring commitment to community welfare.
The commemorations concluded with a final floral tribute at the statue of the Founding Father at the Gajaba Regimental Centre, where all Officers and Other Ranks of the Regiment paid their respects to a leader whose legacy continues to inspire courage and dedication within the Sri Lanka Army.
