The Inaugural Commemorative Oration in honour of Late Brigadier J.F. Halangode was held on 21 February 2026 at the Faculty of Graduate Studies Auditorium of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University.
Major General K.P.A. Jayasekara (Retd), Deputy Minister of Defence, graced the event as the Chief Guest.
At the commencement of the programme, the Chief Guest was received by Major General A.M.A. Abeyawardana, General Officer Commanding of the 58 Infantry Division and Colonel of the Regiment of the Gemunu Watch.
Floral tributes were paid to the statue of Brigadier Halangode by the Chief Guest and other distinguished attendees. Major General Lalin Fernando (Retd) was presented with the Oration Medal prior to delivering the commemorative address, during which he highlighted the late Brigadier’s distinguished service, leadership and contributions to national defence and regimental traditions.
At the conclusion of the event, a token of appreciation was presented to the Orator. General G.H. de Silva (Retd), former Commander of the Army, senior retired officers of the Gemunu Watch, Colonel Keith Miles, Defence Attaché of the United Kingdom in Sri Lanka and family members of the late Brigadier, including his son Brigadier H.N. Halangode (Retd), Senior Officers and members of the Seva Vanitha Branch attended the event.
