The 29th Anniversary of the 55 Infantry Division was commemorated on 15 December 2025 at the Division in Kilinochchi.
In line with anniversary celebrations, a flag blessing ceremony was held at the sacred Sri Maha Bodhi in Anuradhapura. Further religious observances were conducted at St. Theresa’s Church, Lumbini Vihara and Kandasamy Kovil in Kilinochchi. In remembrance of fallen heroes, a floral tribute ceremony was conducted in front of the Elephant Pass (Alimankada) Gamini Kularatne Memorial.
On the anniversary day, Major General W. M. A. B. Wijekoon USP ndc, General Officer Commanding of the 55 Infantry Division, was accorded a guard turnout and a guard of honour in accordance with military traditions, followed by a traditional all-ranks lunch.
Adding to the celebrations, cricket, volleyball and badminton tournaments were conducted, and awards and prizes were presented to outstanding sportsmen at a subsequent ceremony.
